The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC), as part of its price monitoring activities, has found that 60% of cases involved non‑compliant price indications. As a result, four decisions have been adopted, imposing a total fine of EUR 1,000.
Since January 2026, CRPC has continued market surveillance, both by assessing the availability of low‑price basket products and by carrying out inspections to verify compliance with price indication requirements in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 178 of 18 May 1999, “Procedures for Indicating Prices of Goods and Services” (hereinafter – Regulation No. 178).
The Consumer Rights Protection Law provides that consumers have the right to receive complete information about the price of a product before making a purchase. Regulation No. 178 further requires that prices be indicated in a way that is unambiguous, easy to identify and clearly legible, and that it be entirely clear to which product the price applies.
When planning price indication inspections, CRPC also takes into account complaints received from consumers. The monitoring results show that 60% of the inspected prices were non‑compliant.
Most Commonly Identified Non‑Compliances:
- the selling price is not indicated (for food products, clothing, pet food, etc.);
- the unit price is not indicated or is calculated incorrectly (where the selling price was missing, the unit price was also not indicated);
- the amount charged at checkout is incorrect (the price displayed for the product differs from the price charged at the cash register).
CRPC has initiated administrative offence proceedings, and decisions have been adopted in four cases. The total amount of fines imposed is EUR 1,000.
To ensure continued effective price monitoring, CRPC encourages consumers to report cases where low‑price basket products are not available in retail outlets, misleading discounts are offered, or other deceptive promotions, discounts or sales are implemented.
