The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC) has adopted a decision to restrict access to the website discoverazone.com. An investigation found that the website was engaging in unfair commercial practices that could cause financial loss to consumers in Latvia.
The website advertised and offered various products in Latvian through distance contracts, including portable air conditioners. The risk to consumers is particularly high during periods of hot weather, when interest in purchasing such products increases.
Key Violations Identified
1. Concealed Identity and Lack of Contact Information
The website failed to identify the seller of the goods, including the trader’s name, registration number and legal address. The email addresses provided were found to be non-existent, making communication and voluntary compliance impossible. The domain was registered on 21 December 2025, while the identity of the owner was concealed, with only the developer, “Distributed Growth s.o.o.”, being indicated.
2. Misleading Practices
The website used statements designed to create a false sense of urgency and encourage impulsive purchases, such as “only the last 7 air conditioners available” and promises of delivery within 24 hours. The advertising was also distributed through the Facebook profile “Smart Choise Finds.”
3. Indicators of Fraudulent Activity
The Latvian-language content on the website was of poor quality and contained numerous errors. The website did not provide distance selling terms and conditions or a withdrawal form as required by law. In addition, the antivirus software AVG identified the website as a fake e-store.
Having assessed all the circumstances of the case, the CRPC concluded that the continued operation of the website posed a significant risk to the interests of Latvian consumers and therefore decided to block access to the website.
The CRPC urges consumers to exercise particular caution when purchasing goods from unfamiliar online stores. Before making a purchase, consumers are advised to verify both the reliability of the website and the identity of the seller.
