As Easter approaches, the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC) encourages consumers to plan their shopping in advance and choose the most cost‑effective offers by purchasing products included in the low‑price basket, helping to reduce overall expenses.

The low‑price basket initiative promotes more affordable access to everyday products while strengthening fair competition in the market. To help limit spending associated with preparing the Easter table, CRPC recommends selecting products from the low‑price basket offers.

At the same time, CRPC draws traders’ attention to the obligation to ensure that low‑price basket products are placed in clearly visible locations for customers. Products included in the low‑price basket must be easy to identify and clearly labelled in stores. Traders should also ensure sufficient stock levels so that low‑price basket products remain available to consumers throughout the entire Easter period.

CRPC reminds that the low‑price basket must include at least one product from each of the ten basic food categories:

  • bread;
  • milk;
  • dairy products (cheese and cottage cheese, butter, sour cream, yoghurt, buttermilk);
  • fresh vegetables;
  • fresh fruit;
  • meat (pork, poultry, beef and veal, lamb and goat meat);
  • fresh fish;
  • eggs;
  • flour and other grains;
  • vegetable oils.

To ensure continued effective price monitoring, CRPC encourages consumers to report cases where low‑price basket products are not available at retail outlets, misleading discounts are offered, or other deceptive promotions, discounts or sales are implemented.

Reports can be submitted by emailing pasts@ptac.gov.lv or by calling +371 6545 2554.
