Last week, representatives of the Consumer Rights Protection Centre of Latvia (CRPC), the State Consumer Rights Protection Authority of Lithuania (VVTAT), and the Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority of Estonia (CPTRA) gathered in Riga for their annual Baltic cooperation meeting.
These authorities cooperate in the areas of consumer protection, market surveillance of non-food products, and tourism services. Collaboration between the Baltic consumer protection authorities has been ongoing for more than twenty years.
The two-day meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation among the Baltic institutions, facilitate the exchange of experience, and discuss the most pressing challenges in the fields of consumer protection, dispute resolution, product safety, and market surveillance.
The participants also discussed consumer awareness initiatives and campaigns implemented across the Baltic States to promote consumer knowledge and informed decision-making. Representatives shared their experiences regarding the most effective communication approaches and explored opportunities for developing more coordinated information campaigns at the regional level in the future.
In addition, the participants discussed a range of other current issues and challenges, including the implementation of political advertising regulations, age verification mechanisms used to control access to services, as well as price trends in the context of geopolitical tensions and their impact on consumers and market surveillance activities.
The Baltic cooperation meeting serves as an important platform for the regular exchange of experience and the development of common approaches to protecting consumer interests at the regional level. Such cooperation helps to identify cross-border issues at an early stage, promotes more consistent enforcement and market surveillance practices, and strengthens consumer protection throughout the Baltic region.
