The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC) informs that it has received inquiries and concerns from residents regarding the recent increase in fuel prices. The escalation of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East in recent weeks has triggered reactions in both oil and gas markets, which has immediately resulted in a sharp rise in fuel prices at filling stations.
In order to ensure transparency and protect consumer interests, CRPC will actively monitor market developments, carrying out various types of price monitoring and inspections of major fuel retailers.
CRPC calls on market participants to comply with the principles of fair commercial practices, not to exploit geopolitical events to unjustifiably increase prices, and to clearly explain the justification for price changes to consumers.
How Consumers Can Choose the Most Advantageous Fuel Retailer
To select the most cost‑effective option for refuelling, CRPC recommends that consumers:
- compare fuel prices at different filling stations and from different retailers; this information is available on retailers’ websites;
- use fuel price comparison tools and websites, such as www.kurliet.lv;
- choose the most suitable and affordable option by comparing final prices, taking into account applicable loyalty programmes and other discounts.
CRPC encourages consumers to continue reporting suspicious or seemingly unjustified fuel price increases by emailing pasts@ptac.gov.lv or calling +371 6545 2554.
