The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC) informs that food price comparison tools are an important aid in everyday shopping, especially at a time when food prices continue to rise. CRPC’s assessment of the tools currently available confirms that they can help consumers more easily compare prices across different retailers, plan purchases and save money.

The development of food price comparison tools is one of the measures set out in the Memorandum on Food Trade, signed on 27 May 2025 (hereinafter – the Memorandum). The aim of the Memorandum is to promote the availability of basic food products, increase the share of locally produced goods and strengthen cooperation between retailers and producers. CRPC is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Memorandum.

In accordance with the Memorandum, CRPC has assessed the food price comparison tools currently available to consumers: Cenu Depo, Kiwiscan.io, Letapartika.lv and VisiBukleti.lv.

As price comparison tools cover different retailers, the range of products and prices displayed may also vary. When using these tools, consumers should check the validity period of the displayed prices and pay attention to whether the information is updated regularly.

It is positive that most platforms offer various sorting and filtering options, which make it easier to find the most advantageous offers and are recommended for use. Particularly useful features include the ability to sort products by price per unit, filter products by manufacturer or country of origin, and view low‑price basket offers.
