Electrical products, smart devices and toys used in everyday life can pose serious risks. Therefore, during Safety Week, the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC) calls on consumers to pay close attention to the safety of these products. When choosing such goods, it is essential to ensure that they comply with European Union requirements and are properly marked.

What to Check When Buying Electrical Products and Smart Devices

When purchasing electrical products or smart devices, consumers should make sure that the following essential information is available:

  • the manufacturer’s name/trade mark, address and contact details;
  • the type, batch or serial number;
  • the CE marking.

In addition, electrical products must be accompanied by instructions for use in the official language, providing information on installation, use and maintenance.

Smart devices must also include information on radio frequencies and signal power, as well as the EU Declaration of Conformity.

Toy Safety

Toys play an important role in children’s everyday lives and development, which is why their safety is particularly important. CRPC regularly inspects toys by testing their mechanical, physical and chemical properties.

Parents are advised to:

  • purchase toys only from reliable traders;
  • check whether the toy’s labelling includes information about the manufacturer and importer (name/trade mark and address), product identification, CE marking, warnings and instructions for use;
  • choose toys appropriate to the child’s age;
  • avoid giving small children toys with small detachable parts;
  • ensure that battery compartments are securely closed;
  • supervise children while they are playing and regularly check the condition of toys.

Remember: the CE marking indicates that the manufacturer has assessed the product’s compliance with European Union (EU) safety, health and environmental protection requirements. It is one of the key indicators helping consumers verify that a product meets safety standards. The absence of CE marking may indicate that the product does not comply with EU safety requirements.

During Safety Week, CRPC reminds consumers that making informed purchasing decisions and using products correctly helps prevent accidents and protect consumer health.
